Garden Gnome

I wish people in my country have garden gnomes. I keep on seeing these ceramic creatures in European films and I have mixed emotions over them. They look ugly, endearing, funny, kitsch, fiendish, and entertaining. If my neighbors have garden gnomes, I would probably steal one and put him in my garden. I know, stealing is bad but don’t worry, I’ll put the gnome back. I just want him to visit my house for awhile.
I was searching google for garden gnomes history but it pointed me to this. I’ve read through it but I still don’t know how and why ceramic gnomes became popular in Europe. Maybe not only in Europe, perhaps other continents have gnomes too. That history site explained about the history of real gnomes and I think we have an equivalent for them here in my country. They’re called “dwende” or “lamang lupa” and they’re earth elementals who protect the flora and fauna even in the city. My neighbors claims they have dwendes and I believe them. Sometimes, things in my room disappear all of a sudden and I find them in odd places (but maybe that’s just the odd me putting things in odd places).

I’m itching to buy a gnome on ebay but I have only roughly $30 left on my US bank account. Maybe a reader out there has a spare garden gnome he/she wants to dispose. I think I have enough to pay for shipping if it’s not too expensive.
