Widget-Enabled
In an attempt to distract myself from all the unpleasantness, I tweaked my wordpress theme to be widget-enabled. Readers wouldn’t notice the difference but it makes layouting and adding stuff the sidebar easier. Supposedly.
So what is this widget thingamajig?
“Widgets” is just a silly buzzword we’ve chosen for this sidebar-chopping plug-in we have developed. They could have been called Gadgets or Gizmos or Wizbangs or Whatevers. On the surface, they’re just things you can use to personalize your WordPress site without knowing HTML. Way down deep, they may be something entirely more significant.
In other words, it’s a project by Automattic to make life easier for those without HTML or PHP knowledge. Why the hell did I bother since I know HTML and PHP? Well, I am assuming that there would be an onslaught of Wordpress widget plugins and I didn’t want to get left behind. Also, tweaking is a really good distraction for me.
As of the moment, there are only a couple (around 30 to 40) themes which are widget-compliant. As for widget plugins, there are around 20 and most of them aren’t really useful to me. I expect that there would be more promising plugins in the future. If you are a Wordpress user, maybe you should consider making your theme widget friendly. Who knows what the future has in stake for us users?
