How NOT to earn money from blogging
I’ve been a blogger for more than 6 years now and I never really earned anything from doing it. Well not exactly. I got Mike to donate me a couple of dollars. Aside from that, nadda. Not a single cent. The Adsense on my sidebar is useless because nobody ever clicked on it. My Amazon Associate account never brought me revenue. And my textlink ad for RSS never got approved. With the advent of problogging and probloggers, the way I blog is probably as extinct as the Dodo bird. I can only drool as increasing number of bloggers in the interwebs receive paychecks or products for review. Hell, that bastard Darren Rowse who owns problogging.net was able to buy a house because of blogging. I wouldn’t even be able to buy a pack of chewing gum for my blog. I am hoping that would change in the future but as for now, I think I have enough credentials to give tips on how not to earn money from blogging.
- Alienate your audience. Talk about yourself as much as possible and don’t forget to mention your elite tastes in music, film, literature, art, and the likes. Believe that you are better than most of humanity.
- Make your posts non work-friendly. Display naked or half-naked photos. Make use of keywords such as porn, sex, bestiality, masturbation, incest and other sexual deviations you can think of.
- Graphics overload. Never resize your graphics nor make thumbnails. Graphics should be 300 pixels or more. By doing so, users on dial-up won’t be able to access your blog.
- Horizontal scrolling is your friend.
- Offend. Cover taboo topics and constantly criticize religious groups, race, advocacies, etc. For best effect, contradict yourself often. You don’t want to create a following.
- Hide your ads. Ads should not be easily seen.
- Turn off commenting. This makes the readers feel unwelcome. Another alternative is to password protect entries.
- Never promote your blog. It’s as if your blog doesn’t exist at all.
- Do not link. This makes your blog self-contained. If someone links to your blog, do not link back. Too much links in posts can be effective too.
- Sprinkle expletives often. Readers will surely love you for it.

Personal blogs are not good money maker. Plus, those adsense ads shown in personal blogs are low-paying ones. It probably would take 1000 or more clicks before you can reach the minimum payout. Unless your blog is very famous and has a lot of traffic you’re better off without them (sorry to say that). Most blogs that do earn are technical blogs, product review blogs, etc.
I, myself, don’t see any adsense ads because I blocked it from my computer.

I never believed I could make money from blogging i’m already happy if somebody comments every once in a while, which apart from a few regulars like yourself i rarely get. I cannot crack how to drive some traffic to the blog either, although probably i don’t put that much effort either.
I’m going to take some advice from one of your points and add some work-unsafe content to the blog …. lol … i laughed at that one when i read it.

Good post. It all depends who your audience is. I personally dislike my audience and tell them but they keep coming back.

Good for you. I would offer free sex to my audience but I know they wouldn’t take the bait.

[...] After writing that post about not making money from blogging, I googled for ways to actually make money from blogging. That’s how I found out about Orble. It’s a blogging community with LOTS of ads. An Orble member can have several blogs but I only needed one. Everytime a member makes a post to his blog, other members can vote to show that they liked the post. I guess that makes the blog popular or something. I don’t really know. The Orble management keeps track of the traffic all blogs receive. If a particular blog has good potential and the content is good, they offer the member his own domain name for the blog. This ordinarily takes 2 to 3 weeks after the first post. I started with Coffin Talk where I just posted about things which I find interesting (guro, Japanese wackiness, etc.). My first post was December 4 and I tried to post everyday. I just kept on posting and I even reposted my article on how not to make money from blogging and that drew a lot of attention from the community. I received a lot of votes and some comments. I guess that’s the turning point of my orble blog. Since then, I received regular readers. They don’t comment but it doesn’t matter. They still voted. And the blog’s traffic attracted the attention of the Orble team. One week after I started posting, I was notified by the management that they want to buy a domain for my blog. Yay me! I’m a rising star. LOL. Since coffintalk.com is already taken, she suggested that I use coffinconversations.com instead. I agreed and there’s nothing to lose anyway. If my readers click on the ads in my blog, I get half of the profit and the other half goes to Orble. I guess that’s fine. So if you want to check out my other blog, please try to click on an ad. Hehehe. Money is nice. I’m still transferring the coffin talk posts to the new blog. Hopefully I will finish soon so I can make fresh entries. Related Posts: [...]
