Harry Potter Withdrawal (no spoilers)

Friday, July 27th, 2007

I finished reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night. The book made me bawl a lot but thinking about it now, something seems to be lacking. Maybe it’s just me but I felt like the ‘big BOOM’ didn’t come. Still, I enjoyed reading it and I will read it again soon because I might have missed something. In fact, I want to read the whole series again because I can’t get over the fact that it’s all over now.

I don’t consider myself to be a big Harry Potter fan even if I bought all the books and watched all the movies. I’m not the type who would like up on the first day of the release or cosplay as a Hogwarts student. Still, the series has been a part of me for years and I’m sad that there wouldn’t be a Harry Potter book in the future. It’s kind of like losing a friend.

Clothes for Yasu

Friday, July 20th, 2007

I finally took Yasu with me to work. Of course, nothing happened there but I also took him with me to my fashion design class. I was hoping that someone there would design clothes for him since I don’t know how to make menswear yet. Well, it worked. Somebody in class this afternoon happens to make menswear and he said he’ll make a pattern for Yasu since I’ll help him buy his own BJD. Hehehe. I have to sew the clothes myself but at least I would have a pattern. I know how to sew now anyway.

I ordered pants and a shirt for Yasu since he only has 1 set of clothes. Poor dear. I’m also bidding on a new suit for him on Yahoo Japan. It’s cheap so I hope I win that.

Yasu has a blog. It’s at http://yasu707.vox.com in case you want to check it out.

Review: Nana 2

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

I liked this more than Nana 1. At least this time, Mika Nakashima used more expressions oh her face. What I really didn’t like about the film version of Nana is a lot of the side stories were deleted. Like the romance between Shin and Layla, for one. I think that’s an integral part of Nana. Another is the sorta romance between Yasu and Nana. Why didn’t they include that? I’m rooting for the Yasu-Nana romance in the anime and manga so the fact that they didn’t include that pissed me off. Oh well, I’m just a viewer. I know a lot of Nana fans liked the film version. I’m not one of them though.

Unit

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

I had a very trying day. I was very busy working on a presentation. On top of that, something has been bothering me since last night. I can’t discuss the specifics since it involves my family but because of it, my depression was triggered again. It’s kind of resolved now but it really zapped my energy. My eyes hurt and are swollen from crying too. I don’t want to sleep yet though. I want to read or watch something to amuse myself but my eyes are defying me.

NANA Day Photos

Monday, July 9th, 2007

I was at the NANA Day at Metrowalk last 7/7/07. I had to go there alone since Jenny, a friend who was supposed to go with me, was sick. Boo! I’m getting used to going out alone though. I brought Yasu with me and it was his first night out. I wanted to enter him in the cosplay contest but it was too late. I think it would have weirded out people too. The event was pretty good. There were hardly any awkward moments because of the good hosts. I didn’t enjoy some of the bands though. A lot were off-key and their singing gave me a headache. I left early, a little after 10 to be exact. The crowd was getting to me and I was developing neck pain in the literal sense. Well here are some photos. I only got a few good ones since I was too far from the stage. I’m lucky I even got to sit.

.ASS

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

I just hate the limitations of Mac sometimes. Well that hardly happens except for subtitling applications. I’m a part of Japan-TV fansubbers and I mostly do quality checks. That involves correcting grammar, spelling, timing, etc. Right now I’m QC-ing Hana Yori Dango and it’s one of my favorite doramas. I really want to QC it properly to do the dorama justice but how can I do that when most of the subtitler apps for Mac just fucks up the files! I need a decent substitute for Advanced Substation Alpha (which only runs in Windows) but I couldn’t find any. I’ve tried Jubler and it just messed up the timing. I also tried Miyu but it doesn’t read .ass files. It’s so frustrating. My only option, at least that I know of, is to edit using an HTML editor. I couldn’t check if the timing’s correct through that. *sigh*
