Get well soon, Elmer
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008Yesterday was really bad. I had to rush my cat Elmer to the vet when our maid told me that he vomited a lot. He hasn’t been feeling well since last week. We thought it was nothing much so we just gave him vitamins thinking that he’ll be in the pink of health soon. He wasn’t getting better though. My mother took him to the vet Sunday afternoon and they x-rayed him. The result showed that he has hairballs he couldn’t expel. He couldn’t even pee nor poop so the toxins are stuck inside his little body. The vet told her to make him ingest castor oil and let him play outside. That’s what we did but he was weak and didn’t even play. But we thought the castor oil wasn’t working yet.
The emergency. I didn’t know his condition was severe until the vet told me that he has 50/50 chance of living. That’s when I broke down. I was so shocked. The vet put him on dextrose since he wasn’t eating anymore. I didn’t want to leave but I couldn’t do anything there. I cried so much when I got home then slept until 7 am this morning. I called the vet as soon as I woke up and they reported that he’s eating again and was able to excrete last night. I visited him before I went to the office. He looked better but was still weak. Then I got the good news this afternoon that most of the hairballs are gone and we can possibly take him home tomorrow or Thursday. I dropped by in the afternoon after work. Elmer began eating when I showed up but he ignored me. He looked healthier and I hope his recovery will continue. I’ll be so devastated if he dies.
I love you, Elmer. Get well soon!
