Dementiacons

Monday, October 27th, 2008

For those who know me in Plurk, I’ve been using a bunch of emoticons which highly represent me.

Jorgegee was the one who first showed them to me and said I look like them which I hated when I first saw them but Eloisa agreed that they are so me. So I made them my signature Plurk emoticons and call them dementiacons.

Well, a couple of hours ago, I discovered who the creator is. It’s MaggieMarket and I had a grand time downloading more of them dementiacons. The character is Maggie herself and she also made emoticons out of her husband and friends. Coincidentally, the hubby emoticon looks like my big Plurk crush.

Too bad I couldn’t understand the site much since it’s in Chinese. I think I would have enjoyed her blog a lot. Anyway, I’ll keep on coming back to that site for more downloadable goodies.

Twinkies

I miss them. A lot. They’re not sold in my 3rd World Country. A few years ago, a local brand used to sell a similar version but they pulled if off the supermarket shelves. I have no idea why but I think it’s a big shame. So now, I’m craving for twinkies and couldn’t find any, not even in S&R. Anybody wants to send me a box or more of the yummy treat?

Dekada Cinemanila

Monday, October 20th, 2008

Back in film school, I volunteered for the first Cinemanila International Film Festival (CIFF). It was an awesome experience for me and I can’t believe that it’s been 10 years since I’ve done that. I also volunteered for Cinemanila 2 but the first one was the best for me.

Since it’s their 10th year, Cinemanila wants to make the festival grander. It will be hard to beat last year’s Cinemanila wherein they brought in Quentin Tarantino. There are rumors that Martin Scorsese will be brought in but it IS just a rumor.

This year’s CIFF will be held at the Gateway Mall Cinemas. For more information and schedules of films, go to http://www.cinemanila.org.ph

Cheer for myself

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

It’s going to be alright, girl. Nothing much you can do. Just keep on marching to your own tune. It might lead you to new and exciting places or to more decrepit and despair, but move on. And keep the baggage light.

Muy muy muy to Baddie

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I have a new Plurk theme now! Big thanks to big bad baddie for the Wicked Witch of Oz theme I requested! For awhile he scared me that he’ll make me a Wild Wild West theme. Ugh Wil Smith. So for this, I give him my bunny dance!

La Boheme

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

I was lucky enough to get invited by Lorna to view the dress rehearsal of La Boheme last night. The Puccini opera is being brought to life by Floy Quintos and the Philippine Opera Company. Almost everything was retained from the original opera. The names of the characters and the Italian libretto are the same except Mr. Quintos set the opera in Manila with present day problems of lovers and starving artists.

Since I only saw the run-through, I witnessed a lot of technical problems like the distracting/ill-timed spot lights, awkward blockings, and acting mistakes. Hopefully Mr. Quintos and company will be able to perfect everything when the curtain goes up on October 3. I was delighted with the video backdrop which Furball created although I learned that there will be some changes to it during the run itself.

More information about the cast and the opera can be found here. La Boheme will be on stage from October 3 to 5 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Ticket prices are as follows: P500 (balcony 2), P1,000 (balcony 1 side),  P1,500 (balcony 1 center), P2,000 (orchestra side 2), P2,500 (orchestra side), P3,000 (orchestra center), and 4,000 (opening night orchestra center).
