Citizens' Vigilance

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I want to encourage Facebook users to join Price Watch and post prices of goods here. I’ve been reading tweets and plurks that there are people, including government employees, are taking advantage of the crisis by selling overpriced food to victims. Jester also made a helpful blog post which lists who to contact when there are anomalies spotted.

For complaints regarding food and bottled water costs: report to the Department of Trade and Industry. Click this consumer complaint link to file a complaint online.

For complaints regarding LPG and other cooking fuel costs: report to the Department of Energy. Click their contact details here to find at least one person who will attend to us (I hope).

For complaints regarding the cost of medicines: report to the Department of Health. They have provided Health Emergency Management Service hotlines (+632) 711-1101 and (+632) 743-0538. With any luck we can depend on the Bureau of Food and Drugs; find from the BFAD contact information someone willing to talk to us. (So sorry folks, best I could do at short notice.)

For complaints regarding transportation fares: contact the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board. Click on the LTFRB complaint form to file a complaint online.

More information here.

It’s disgusting how some people are preying on the suffering of others.

Typhoon Ondoy Emergency Hotlines

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

So many people in Luzon need help right now. Typhoon Ondoy brought the highest rainfall since 1967. I’m fortunate that I’m living in a relatively high place even though it flooded a little earlier. I have friends who are stuck in floods, traffic, etc. as I type this and I feel helpless that I can’t rescue anyone. Manolo is urging bloggers to blog emergency hotlines and rescue operations so I’ll do just that. It’s the least I can do to help.

Fundraising Concert for Senator Noynoy Aquino

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009
etonAPOtalaga!

etonAPOtalaga!

I was there! In fact, I liveblogged and livetweeted the event. The concert started at 7:30 PM and only half the capacity of UP Theater was filled. I was disappointed but after 30 minutes or so, the seats were almost full. I and Marck had our own table and chairs on the right side of the theater so we were kind of detached from the event. Still, there were times when I sang and clapped and cheered. I really had fun. Of course, the highlight for me is seeing Noynoy. I squealed when he entered the theater. *blush*

After the concert, I was hesitant to approach Noy but Phoebe dragged me. I was too shy to have our photo taken so I just took one of him and Phoebe. I had a picture with Mar Roxas though. Hrhrhrhr. I’m sure there will be other opportunities for photos but right now, I am content with just seeing Noy. *blush*

Another blessing I received, Noy began following me on Twitter. I have to thank Helga, Sparks, Elena, and Ederic for tweeting that he should follow me. I don’t know if it’s really him but I don’t care much. I’m just really happy.

Driving with My Wife’s Lover
Won triple awards in 2007 in the Sundance International Film Fest, International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Belgrade International Film Festival.

The story revolves around Tae-han, who runs a stamp shop in a small town. His life changes when he decides to play witness to his wife’s infidelity.

Forbidden Quest
Won honors in the Grand Bell Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Korean Film Awards in 2006.

Forbidden Quest is an interesting historical comedy that follows the journey of writer Yun-Seo, a man born into a life
of privilege. He decides to become the best erotic author of his time, creating palace intrigues as his work increases in popularity.

Beyond the Years
Beyond the Years is about two siblings who were adopted separately by singer Yu-Bong. Dong-ha falls in love with Song-hwa, but decides that the relationship would not work and eventually leaves home. Still, he never really stops loving his sister, and everything he does ultimately traces back to her.

The Show Must Go On
A dramatic film that revolves around the life of gangster In-gu, who dreams of nothing but moving his family out of their crowded apartment into a more spacious home. His wife tells him to find a more respectable job. His daughter will not
acknowledge him so he begins the challenge of finding a means to provide for his family.

Sa-Kwa
A romantic drama that tells the story of Hyeon-jeong, who is unexpectedly dumped by her boyfriend of 7 years. She
vows to find a new suitor to replace him as soon as possible, as her biological clock keeps ticking away. She ends up falling in love with the most unlikely man at the same time that her ex-boyfriend tries to win her back.

Old Boy
The film follows the journey of a man who has been imprisoned for 15 years without him knowing why. He is released, only to find out that his kidnapper is not done with him yet.

Barking Dogs Never Bite
A satirical film about a lazy university lecturer who depends on his pregnant wife’s salary yet wonders how he can bribe his
way to professorship. The constant yapping of a dog in their apartment block finally gets to him, and he sets out to find it with the intention to murder it.

I’m curious about Old Boy, Forbidden Quest and Sa-Kwa. Admission to the festival is free.

Da Fifols Haz Sfoken

Like my dear dear Noynoy, I listen to the clamor of the people. So here is “our photo.” Please support, Noynoy and vote for him as President.

Caveat: This is not a real photo. Ok. Just need to state that just in case.

Why Noynoy will be getting my vote

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Besides the fact that I will become his First Lady, I do have valid reasons why I believe Noynoy Aquino will make a good President of the Philippines.

Reason no. 1

He has rekindled hope for most of us Filipinos. Many have given up and have started to believe that the current state of politics in the Philippines is our fate and that somehow we deserve it. That traditional politicians and deceitful leaders will always have the last laugh. Cory Aquino’s death reignited the spark of hope in the hearts of so many Filipinos. Through lineage, Noynoy is the living symbol of that hope as well as dreams for a brighter future for the country. This hope should not be belittled because it has the potential to become a very powerful force.

Reason no. 2

Sincere or not, he is bringing out the best in other Presidentiables. Mar Roxas arguably became a statesman when he stepped down to let Noynoy become the standard bearer of the Liberal Party. Gov. Ed Panlilio, Grace Padaca, and Francis Pangilinan have stepped down as well to give Noynoy more leverage. There are already talks that former President Joseph Estrada might withdraw as well. These are sacrifices made for the good of the country, far from selfish acts done by the past and current administrations.

Reason no. 3

If survey results confirm that majority of the Filipinos will vote for him, the Spirit of EDSA which is very much alive in all of us will revolt if he gets cheated in the elections. We will just not allow this to happen.

Reason no. 4

His character. Noynoy is a family man. He is humble, fair, with no reported taint of corruption at all. He is protective, low-key, spartan, and courageous. Some would argue about dynasty but it was the people who urged him to run for President so this shouldn’t apply to him. He was a reluctant leader but his upbringing wouldn’t allow him to just ignore the people’s voice. I could add more to his list of positive traits but that might be overkill.

Reason no. 5

His candidacy is rattling the administration even though they keep on denying it. In fact, cracks have appeared in Lakas-Kampi and I wouldn’t be surprised if those who broke away from the partylist express their support for Noynoy in the coming days.

Reason no. 6

His receding hairline is a good indicator of his virility. So ok, reason no. 6 isn’t valid but everyone keeps on complaining about his baldness.

I’m just a citizen with a renewed hope for the country’s future. I know that if Noynoy becomes President, it wouldn’t be a perfect presidency. He will face numerous trials, hopefully not insurmountable. I just believe that we need a good motivator and a person who can make us trust the government again. In the end, it will be the people who will bring the necessary changes and not the President.

Noynoy Aquino

P.S.

I am so tempted to post “our photo” but I fear the public outrage. lol
