On Javy, wifi, and football

Saturday, July 1st, 2006

Crap! I’ve had 28 hits from “Javy Olives” searches. What if he’s the one who made those searches? Embarrassing but oh well. It’s true anyway and it was a well-known fact back then that I had a huge crush on him.

I’m in the terrace of the house right now where it is cooler. See! There are so many advantages to having a laptop with wifi! I don’t have to be stuck in my room/sauna all day. At least I could now say that I went out of the house even though it’s just to the terrace. Hey, that’s still outside of the house, right?

Filipinos in general aren’t into football. I think that’s a huge shame since football is fun. I don’t know know why the fuck basketball is like the national sport here. Filipinos are short so there is no chance in hell that we will win international basketball competitions. Maybe we’ll have more chance with football since it’s always sunny here and them kids love running around. Why not run around kicking a ball?! I really wish football will become popular here then we’ll finally have a team for the world cup.

Sleepy Sandokan Wow! I’m so sleepy all of a sudden. I still have a gazillion contests to enter my virtual cats in (cat-tails.org) but I would nod off then jerk awake. I’m trying to keep awake by listening to loud music and swaving in time with the beat but it’s not really working. Damn cats. Why do I bother? They’re not real cats. Ugh I’m just a sucker for pets. Virtual or not.

Widget-Enabled

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

In an attempt to distract myself from all the unpleasantness, I tweaked my wordpress theme to be widget-enabled. Readers wouldn’t notice the difference but it makes layouting and adding stuff the sidebar easier. Supposedly.

So what is this widget thingamajig?

“Widgets” is just a silly buzzword we’ve chosen for this sidebar-chopping plug-in we have developed. They could have been called Gadgets or Gizmos or Wizbangs or Whatevers. On the surface, they’re just things you can use to personalize your WordPress site without knowing HTML. Way down deep, they may be something entirely more significant.

In other words, it’s a project by Automattic to make life easier for those without HTML or PHP knowledge. Why the hell did I bother since I know HTML and PHP? Well, I am assuming that there would be an onslaught of Wordpress widget plugins and I didn’t want to get left behind. Also, tweaking is a really good distraction for me.

As of the moment, there are only a couple (around 30 to 40) themes which are widget-compliant. As for widget plugins, there are around 20 and most of them aren’t really useful to me. I expect that there would be more promising plugins in the future. If you are a Wordpress user, maybe you should consider making your theme widget friendly. Who knows what the future has in stake for us users?

Pandora

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

I just found out tonight about Pandora.com and I think it’s a great music site. I don’t really know how to describe it because in a way it’s an internet radio but it lets you input an artist or song you like then the site looks for similar artists or songs and lets you listen to it. You get to rate the song if you like it or not then it stores that information for its next recommendations.

Nintendogs

Friday, December 9th, 2005

I’m not much into games but Nintendogs is too cute that I want to buy a Nintendo DS just to play it. According to an LA Weekly article:

The game starts at the kennel, where you can choose from six different breeds to take home. Once there, you can name your new critter, play with it, feed it, shampoo it, blow bubbles in its face, take it for walks, furiously wave its tail around, and enter it in Frisbee competitions to earn enough money to buy food, accessories, a new house and, of course, more dogs. All this happens with a direct and engaging interface: Rather than buttons, you use a stylus to pet your puppy right on the head, scratch its belly or shake its paw, and you talk into the DS microphone to teach it tricks. Each dog has its own personality and responds to how well it’s treated.

And according to wikipedia:

Nintendogs supports two link-up methods through the built-in wireless network for Nintendo DS. A player can link his or her system up with another person who owns a copy of Nintendogs, face to face, to let the players’ puppies play together. One can also enable the link up system, called “Bark Mode”, in the game option, then close the DS. Instead of putting the DS to sleep, it will continue looking for other Nintendogs users. If another Nintendogs game in Bark Mode is detected while the DS is closed, the two systems will exchange information to be used later when gameplay is resumed.

So cute! I don’t know anyone who owns a Nintendo DS or has this game but I really want to try it just to see if buying a portable gaming console is worth it. I’m not very familiar with the DS. I think Sony’s PSP is better looking and has better capabilities but as for PSP games, the only one I could think of which could match Nintendogs is The Sims 2 for PSP.

Yay for free softwares

Monday, October 17th, 2005

Goody! I found a really neat web gallery creater. Changed the crappy one I was using before. The new one is a free java-based software called JAlbum and it’s very easy to use. Plus, it’s skinnable. The skin I used is BananAlbum which is so cool cos the pictured is presented as flash. Look at the new photos I took here

Paranoid dementia

Thursday, September 22nd, 2005

It turns out I was just being paranoid. Tsk. Sorry about that. Hopefully things would quiet down now since the matter has been fixed. I just feel quite stupid for thinking that.

I just found out that it’s super hard to find SD Rams now. Damn. I went to 8 stores and most of them don’t sell those anymore. The ones who did only have the generic ones and this Mac doesn’t agree with generics. I hope I won’t be stuck with 384MB forever. That’s ok if I’m going to use this as a personal computer but I’m planning to make a living out of this machine so that much RAM wouldn’t do. I swear, once I have enough money to buy a brand new machine, I’ll sell this and get a new one. Durrrr.

Almost all of the computer stores here only cater to PC users and they wouldn’t even accept my pretty mac to test RAMs. Good thing I was able to find 1 store which fixes PCs and Macs and they charge far less than Apple Center. So I brought my mac to them this afternoon because I wanted to upgrade, right? They tested generic RAMS with this so that’s how I found out that this Mac is picky. The tech guys were laughing at my desktop theme cos it’s so pink. I don’t care cos I think it rocks. Anyway, they’re going to look for the right RAM for this then they’ll call me as soon as they get one.
