Pass Around The Can

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

Sorry for the unexpected hiatus. I was sick last week with the flu. I was also absent from work for 3 days. A few things have changed since I last wrote here. I’ll try to them as I write this post.

anna_sui.jpgI don’t think I ever mentioned this but a couple of weeks ago, I fell in love with a pink Anna Sui bag. The initial price is cheap. I think it was 800 pesos. I don’t remember if I was the first one to bid but another girl was wanted the bag too so for several days, we tried to outbid each other. I placed my maximum bid to 2,500. I don’t recall why I was sleepy. Maybe from lack of sleep or I was feeling sick. But I slept early. Like 10 PM. Can you believe that?! 10 PM!!!! So okay, when I checked my mail the next day, I found out I lost the bag. The bitch stole my bag for P2,700. Waaaah! So now I am still obsessed with that bag. In my desperation, I tried to find Ebay Japan but that doesn’t exist. There’s Yahoo Japan though but the site is in Japanese and I found out that the Japanese don’t really like selling to gaijins like me. So I googled for Japan auctions and learned that there are websites which offer bidding services for gaijins who want something from Yahoo Japan. I found a good one, japanauctioncenter.com which offers the service at a cheaper rate than their competitions. I joined the site and deposited a couple thousand of pesos. I saw bags like the one I lost in ebay.ph but they were brand new and expensive. I’ll keep on waiting for a good deal for that bag but for now, I still bid on other Anna Sui products. I actually won a nice wallet. I’m still crossing my fingers for the bag. It’s just like the bag in the photo here except it was pink.

I have 2 Anna Sui bags now which I won on ebay.ph. They’re not as nice as the one I wanted but what can I do?

I am working on a new project. It’s web-related and it’s looking good. I’ll keep that a secret for now.

I just remembered that my driver’s license is expired and I need to renew it. Gah. It expired last Nov. 26. I have to pay penalty fee for not renewing it in the proper time.

I ordered Absolutely Fabulous 1 to 3 and Degrassi Junior High the complete collection on Amazon and I got the DVDs last week. I haven’t started watching them though. Hopefully I’ll find time to watch during the short xmas holiday.

I’m so pretentious. I got myself a moleskine notebook and a large moleskine sketchbook. For those not in the know, moleskine is the brand of notebook Hemmingway, Van Gogh, Picasso, and other brilliant people used. This is what I get from hanging out in philmug.ph. Moleskine.ph overcharges those damn notebooks but I still ordered from the owner who is a philmug regular. It’s just a damn notebook but I’ll keep the illusion that I’m brilliant too because they are expensive. I just got them but I ordered last month. Damn longbeard (the seller). I’m still happy with the purchase though.

I already mentioned about the ibook I have. Well, I bought a bag for it. It’s a Samsonite laptop backpack but it’s way cheaper than the bag I saw in the Samsonite store. I bought mine from istudio in Greenhills. I also bought a…I don’t know what they’re called but they’re stands for the laptop and it’s spherical in shape. That one is expensive but it’s serving me well. I overspent my shopping that day because I also ended up buying an Edifier speaker for my ipod. It’s cheaper than the other good speakers I saw before so I took one.

Great. Most of my activities involve spending. What about me getting money? I hope I didn’t lose any of my regular readers with this update. I would also like to pass around my patented tin can with class? Funds are low once again and sprinking a few $$$ my way would cheer me up in time for the holidays :D

I’m too sleepy now. I could hardly keep my eyes open. Please be generous while I sleep. I’ll post again about the changes in my life when I find time at work.

How NOT to earn money from blogging

Monday, December 4th, 2006

I’ve been a blogger for more than 6 years now and I never really earned anything from doing it. Well not exactly. I got Mike to donate me a couple of dollars. Aside from that, nadda. Not a single cent. The Adsense on my sidebar is useless because nobody ever clicked on it. My Amazon Associate account never brought me revenue. And my textlink ad for RSS never got approved. With the advent of problogging and probloggers, the way I blog is probably as extinct as the Dodo bird. I can only drool as increasing number of bloggers in the interwebs receive paychecks or products for review. Hell, that bastard Darren Rowse who owns problogging.net was able to buy a house because of blogging. I wouldn’t even be able to buy a pack of chewing gum for my blog. I am hoping that would change in the future but as for now, I think I have enough credentials to give tips on how not to earn money from blogging.

  1. Alienate your audience. Talk about yourself as much as possible and don’t forget to mention your elite tastes in music, film, literature, art, and the likes. Believe that you are better than most of humanity.
  2. Make your posts non work-friendly. Display naked or half-naked photos. Make use of keywords such as porn, sex, bestiality, masturbation, incest and other sexual deviations you can think of.
  3. Graphics overload. Never resize your graphics nor make thumbnails. Graphics should be 300 pixels or more. By doing so, users on dial-up won’t be able to access your blog.
  4. Horizontal scrolling is your friend.
  5. Offend. Cover taboo topics and constantly criticize religious groups, race, advocacies, etc. For best effect, contradict yourself often. You don’t want to create a following.
  6. Hide your ads. Ads should not be easily seen.
  7. Turn off commenting. This makes the readers feel unwelcome. Another alternative is to password protect entries.
  8. Never promote your blog. It’s as if your blog doesn’t exist at all.
  9. Do not link. This makes your blog self-contained. If someone links to your blog, do not link back. Too much links in posts can be effective too.
  10. Sprinkle expletives often. Readers will surely love you for it.

I mentioned to Grace that I will post my items for sale here before I post them on ebay.ph so here they are. Most of them I just found in my closet. Too bad for my sister for storing her stuff there. She has too much bags anyway and she doesn’t use the ones in my closet anymore.

I Wish I Was Home

dorthy_hi_red_188.jpgI am planning to buy this lovely shoes. It’s so Dorothy of Wizard of Oz. I prefer the non-platform shoes version of this but it doesn’t come in my size. I have ridiculously huge feet. Anyway, the shoes is from Electrique Boutique and sells for only $24.99. The international shipping is a killer though. The total would run up to roughly $62 for FedEx Economy. That’s more than 3,000 pesos. I think it’ll be worth it though. Besides, I find it hard to buy shoes in the Philippines because the sizes are too small for me. The problem with imported shoes, based on my experiences, is that they tend to melt and fall apart if they’re unused for several months or so. The boots I bought from the US is making smiley faces at me already. Is this a common occurence? I think our weather has something to do with this.

New look, DVDs, art frustration, and such

Monday, October 16th, 2006

I am really getting tired of my current blog theme and I just realized that if viewed using Opera and Internet Explorer, the layout really sucks. So I decided that I will change the theme. I already saw a theme I like but I’m still asking for the owner’s permission if I can modify it. I also looked around for great graphics I could use (I have none) and found several. Hopefully, the owners will allow me to use their photographs. I will also be updating soon to Wordpress 2.0.2 (Mine is currently ver. 2). I guess the whole renovation will take a month. Hopefully.

I bought several DVDs tonight. They’re pirated I admit but they’re just copied from tv broadcasts of the shows. I’m happy with my choices though. I now have Undeclared, Oz, Entourage, Six Feet Under, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The L Word. I’m still watching Freaks and Geeks though but I’m on the 4th DVD.

I was browsing through Deviantart.com and got frustrated because I don’t have much in my gallery. The other members there are soooo talented. I feel insecure. I want to get into photography again. Sadly for me, I don’t even have a digital camera. Muss less a digital SLR. Boo hoo. Even my relatives (except for the ones in the US) don’t have an SLR so I couldn’t borrow from anyone. I’m not sure about friends. The few close friends I have don’t own one.

I installed more WP plugins. Some of them are the following:

Dinner turned into buying spree

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Damn! I’m almost broke again. I spent most of my salary trying to pay my credit card bills. I also bought some CDs (Strawberry Switchblade, B-Movie, and Regina Spektor’s Begin to Hope) and a DVD (my favorite, Heartburn) Sunday night at the Podium. We were at that mall because it was my cousin Paul’s birthday treat for us. We ate good food at Burgoo. After that, we had desserts at Goodies and Sweets. Oh I digressed again.

I’m already working but money is still elusive to me. I forgot when the next salary will be released. I hope it’s this week. I really need cash.

Time to grow up I guess

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

Growing old sucks. It’s hard to find excuses for being irresponsible. There are also so many obligations like bills to pay for instance. There’s just no escape from that. I’m lucky that the only bills I have to pay are for my cellphone subscription and credit card debts. A lot of people my age have to deal with utility bills, food, and expenses for their children. What can I say? I’m a late bloomer and I’m just starting to become a responsible adult. I know I’m way immature for my age but I’m exerting effort now. Not too much effort like really trying to get to work on time but still, at least I have work again. I’m even trying to read business books for crying out loud! I could hardly understand it but that’s still something, right? There’s also a huge possibility that I will take an MBA. I’m not confident about that and I have a feeling that it will really be hard. I’m not looking forward to that to be honest, but I have to know how to run a business. I don’t want to see the family biz go down the drain after all my mother’s hard work. I have huge doubts that I can run the business especially with what I know at present…which is zilch. So yeah, growing old really really sucks because I clearly see now the need and importance of money. So much for childhood career ideals.

Model employee

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

Oooh it’s my first day of work and I’m in the office right now. So far, my only duty is to observe. Quite boring actually but it’s okay. I shouldn’t complain since this is as easy as pie and I get paid for doing almost nothing. I can even go online using the laptop because of the unsecured wi-fi of the company beside us. I’m so lucky. I just hope I won’t get caught but I don’t think I will since they never changed their wireless router’s configuration. Hehehe.

Big boss aka mom will take me with her to a meeting this afternoon. She’s going to meet a client in a restaurant so that’s free grub for me. Yay.
