My Shopaholic Confession

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Hi, my name is dementia and I’m a shopaholic. You’d know this by know if you’ve been following my blog but if you are new here, let me tell you about my adventure.

I’m an impulse shopper. My most recent catastrophe was during my trip to Hong Kong last New Year. I wasn’t intending to buy much since I just purchased my macbook last November and it left a big dent on my bank account. My family was staying in Marco Polo Gateway and it’s right smack in the middle of Harbour Square Mall. My sister went to a nearby tech hub to look for a gadget for her boyfriend and on our way back to the hotel, we decided to make a detour inside Harbour Square just to window shop. That was when I saw the Vivienne Westwood store.

Vivienne Westwood is one of my favorite designers and I’ve been pining for a Westwood bag for years. So when I saw that store in Hong Kong, I just had to enter and enter I did. I suddenly felt that I needed a bag, a pair of shoes, and a wallet. I charged all of them to my credit card and because I bought so much, the sales attendant asked me if I wanted to get the discount card. I said I want it and she informed me that I will get a 20% discount if I get another item. I browsed every nook and cranny of the shop until I decided on a pair of sunglasses which I also charged to my credit card. I left the shop with a big grin and felt so high because of the shopping spree. The joy abruptly ended though when we got back to the hotel room.

My mom went ballistic when she found out how much I spent. I racked up more than 60,000 pesos in 1 hour or 2. Mother got so mad at me which pretty much ruined the trip for everybody. She said I need to sell some of my possessions because she won’t help me in any way anymore because of a previous credit card debt which she bailed me out of. When we returned to the Philippines, I sold my old ibook, some of my toy collections, my ixus camera and almost my Nikon D80. They’re not enough to pay for my credit card bill which I got the other day.

Despite my money problem, I’m happy I bought my Vivienne Westwood items especially because there’s no Westwood store in the Philippines. The question is, did I learn from my lesson? I honestly don’t think I did.

Saturn in Retrograde

Friday, January 9th, 2009

The year didn’t start out right for me. In fact, it was very painful. I was with my family in Hong Kong then. Hong Kong Disneyland to be exact. Ironic since it’s the happiest place on earth as they say.

The trip turned ugly when I became over-excited in Vivienne Westwood store and shopped like crazy. The sale drove me wild and it became too hard for me to resist. I bought a bag, a wallet, shoes and sunglasses – all of them I charged to my credit card. I also happened to impulse-buy a Lumix FX38 camera right before I went to the Westwood shop. So once again, ladies and gentlemen, I have credit card debts. I never learned eh? Mom went ballistic when she found out how much I spent. I would have too if our places were reversed but she said some pretty harsh words which infuriated me. Of course, that resulted to much drama which ruined the fun in the trip for everyone. The shopping spree and the drama happened on the 30th of December when we were still in Kowloon. We transferred to Disney on the 31st and the moods were much much better then. However, things became nasty again on the dawn of New Year and I don’t even remember what triggered it. I just got so fed up that I wanted to quit working for the family business and move out of the house as soon as possible.

Things are much calmer now but I can’t afford to move out. I can’t afford to quit my job as well since I need money. Since I don’t want to become overburdened with installments and interests and all that credit card shit, I want to pay as much as I can ASAP. Now I’m selling my Nikon D80 (waaaah), my ibook, my Canon Ixus 60, and even my whole toy collection (It breaks my heart to part with my Gloomy Bears and Nyanko plushies). *sigh* I brought all of this to myself. Now I’ve finally learned my lesson because I don’t want to use my credit cards anymore except to pay for my blogs’ webhosting. I’m happy with my Vivienne Westwood buys and the Lumix but I can’t afford to make the same mistake again because I have nothing of value left to sell anymore. Yes, lesson learned.

HYD movie update

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I found out from the Hana Yori Dango mailing list that there was a filming at Hong Kong! Lucky! I wish I was in Hong Kong during that time. I also wish they would film here! Boo hoo. The Hong Kong fans are so lucky!

Darn it! They look good together.

If I’m not mistaken, the cast is in Las Vegas right now. Fans in the US can watch the filming as long as they behave properly. *sigh*
