Updating Twitter and Plurk via Philippine SMS

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Gone are the good old days of Phplurk and Phtwitter, free services which let us update our micro-blogs using our local carriers. We thought we won’t see a similar service again but I just found out that there are two services which do the same.

GladyCast

GladyCast allows users to update their Twitter and/or Plurk status. They initially offered their services to Singapore and Malaysia residents but they just recently added Philippines to their list. Right now, we can only use their Smart gateway but maybe they will have Sun and Globe in the near future.

In order to use GladyCast, you have to register first by connecting your Twitter and/or Plurk to Gladycast. You will then be asked to SMS a message to a Smart number.

Tweetitow

Tweetitow is a progressive service. Users can update their Twitter status AND receive replies. Now they are trying to integrate MMS,  ping.fm and posterous updates. Tweetitow has gateways for Smart, Globe and Sun so users with unlimited SMS services can take advantage of this. New users will be given 30 free credits for signing up and those credits are consumed when you receive replies on your phone. Sending updates will have no effect on the credits.

To register, text REG username password to your gateway number (globe: 0927-338-9183, smart: 0928-102-0579, sun: 0923-986-0673).

If you know of another service similar to GladyCast and Tweetitow, please let me know.

Joseph Carlo Candare, a sociopath?

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Several days ago, I learned from some Plurker friends about a UP student who gets his thrills from killing cats. The bastard, Joseph Carlo Candare, wrote a multiply entry about a cat he just killed inside the UP campus. He got a lot of angry comments for that entry so he made it private. Fortunately, google cached that entry and people were able to read the whole thing including some comments. Here’s a screencap of that entry.

I’m a cat lover and what this kid did I find truly abominable. I hope that NIP or even the Chancellor is already doing something about this. The kid needs to be punished but it shouldn’t stop there. He’s exhibiting Antisocial Personality Disorder and what’s alarming about it is that the “thrill” he derives from torturing animals can escalate to grimmer things. There is a big chance that he’ll face expulsion since his action was against the law but I’m thinking that he’ll have more hatred with animals and humanity as a consequence. I know a couple of people who actually know the guy in real life and what he does to cats is just one aspect of him. According to them, he has always been a “naughty” kid. He almost set a laboratory on fire. My friends refuse to tell me other details but even just basing the issue on his blog entry alone, it is clear that the kid is disturbed and I believe he needs professional help before it’s too late.

Last night he posted several apology blog entries here, here, and another one he deleted. Sincere or not, he still has urges to harm. He can still continue torturing animals when nobody’s looking. The kid needs professional help like I said, but what irks me a lot are the behaviors of his friends who just let him do such acts. Even more enraging are his friends who defend the violence (read the comments). “Get off your high horse,” they say. Why? So that your friend can beat up the horse?

Dementiacons

Monday, October 27th, 2008

For those who know me in Plurk, I’ve been using a bunch of emoticons which highly represent me.

Jorgegee was the one who first showed them to me and said I look like them which I hated when I first saw them but Eloisa agreed that they are so me. So I made them my signature Plurk emoticons and call them dementiacons.

Well, a couple of hours ago, I discovered who the creator is. It’s MaggieMarket and I had a grand time downloading more of them dementiacons. The character is Maggie herself and she also made emoticons out of her husband and friends. Coincidentally, the hubby emoticon looks like my big Plurk crush.

Too bad I couldn’t understand the site much since it’s in Chinese. I think I would have enjoyed her blog a lot. Anyway, I’ll keep on coming back to that site for more downloadable goodies.

Muy muy muy to Baddie

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I have a new Plurk theme now! Big thanks to big bad baddie for the Wicked Witch of Oz theme I requested! For awhile he scared me that he’ll make me a Wild Wild West theme. Ugh Wil Smith. So for this, I give him my bunny dance!

Confessions Of A Plurk Addict

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

I know, I’ve been neglecting this blog. Well Plurk is to blame for this. For those in the dark as to what Plurk is, officially, it’s a social network cum micro blogging site. For me though, it’s more like a chatroom/forum wonderland. I joined the website because most of my twitter friends were transferring there. I was curious and it was getting lonely in Twitter. I was telling some friends that Plurk sucked but after a week, the addiction kicked in.

I’m not as addicted to it as I first was. At least I don’t think so. Plurk used to give me a natural high. It made me hyper and it felt like I was shouting whenever I posted or replied. I plurked for hours, forgetting sleep and even food that I became sick for awhile. It was that bad. Up to now my sleep pattern is fucked up because of the site. Used to be I can sleep 8 hours straight but now it looks like the most sleep I can get is 5 hours. Oh, before it sounds like I’m complaining, I’m so totally not. I love it even if I’ve neglected so many things because of the site. It’s only because my timeline is quiet right now that I am finishing this entry which I started…I forget…a week ago? But see her, I’ve benefited a lot from it. I’ve met some great people through it and they’re now my friends in real life. I discovered good films and music through recommendations by other Plurkers. There are more but the best so far is I’m *cough cough* quite taken with someone right now. I won’t give any clues as to who it is. Moving on…let me just say that Plurk makes me happy and I think that’s reason enough to justify this addiction.

Sooooo, if I’ve managed to convince any reader to join the website, please use this link because I want more smilies. Until the next time I blog!
